West Bend Optimist Club
Since 1999, the West Bend Optimist Club has sponsored the West Bend Police Explorer of the Year. Since its inception, the recipient has received a $250 scholarship from the West Bend Optimist Club. To be named as the now Police Cadet of the Year, the member must be an active member in good standing. The candidates are scored based on their leadership, GPA and attendance at school, as well as attendance at Police Cadet meetings, along with the number of community service hours performed through the police department. The scores also include activities which the Police Cadets participate in, such as expositions, the National Cadet Conference and the National Cadet Academy, as well as any awards received during these events.
